Roy Keane makes an interesting claim about what teams think deep down about Everton.

Everton has been synonymous with the Premier League’s relegation battle for years and has avoided relegation on the penultimate and then final matchday of the season in successive years.

Then, in the election campaign following those disastrous two terms in office, Sean Dyche had to lead them through two separate point deductions to reach safety.

Hopefully this season will be different, and there are so many reasons to believe it will be a positive and pleasant change.

However, one expert has suggested that their survival will likely depend on the naivety of their rivals rather than their own quality.

Roy Keane talks about Everton and the relegation battle

Speaking on The Overlap, it was Roy Keane who took the lead when it came to the relegation battle that the Toffees have seemingly retreated from of late.

Speaking initially about Southampton, he remarked: “They look physical… they seem to be getting smaller.” The defeats are getting to them every week.

“Even Everton went down against Ipswich last week and did a good job, 2-0. “I bet Ipswich were like that [rolls eyes]… That’s what they would have thought [they could have got a result].’

The Manchester United legend then spoke about how the promoted sides might view Goodison Park, remarking: “You know what the problem is when you’re down there?” The point is, when you turn up, play against Man City, against these teams, against United.

“And then maybe you’re playing at home against Everton and deep down you think that’s a chance to maybe get a result and they come and do a really good job. “Those were the ones we were thinking about.”

Apart from that, Paul Scholes argued with Gary Neville and Roy Keane’s predictions for Everton against Fulham None of them had much faith in the Toffees this weekend.

Everton should be nowhere near relegation this season

Realistically, despite the abhorrent run of defeats that began the new Premier League season, there was no possibility that Everton would find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle this season.

And while that could still be proven wrong, there are so many reasons to justify the Toffees’ improved chances of survival this season.

This includes, above all, the squad, which makes a much stronger impression across the board despite the ongoing injury crisis.

The summer acquisition of Iliman Ndiaye has already provided something this squad has been missing for years, which is why he is already a fan favorite, and players like Orel Mangala, Jesper Lindstrom and Jake O’Brien have sufficiently strengthened the squad in other areas.

And even if they face another steep downturn that pushes them over the edge, Dan Friedkin’s impending takeover of Everton should hopefully be promised funds in January to address any key weaknesses and get them back to safety.

Not to mention that there is an increasing lack of quality at the bottom of the table too: Ipswich Town, Southampton, Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all struggling, and Leicester City should also be another player ahead of Everton in the bottom three.
