Franco Colapinto is leaving his F1 future in the capable hands of his management team, despite rumors circulating that he could move to VCARB next season.
Colapinto has been linked with Red Bull’s youth team for next season in a game of musical chairs that will see Williams driving partner Yuki Tsunoda at VCARB, Liam Lawson take the Red Bull seat alongside Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez may leave Formula 1.
Franco Colapinto: I deserve a place in Formula 1
Colapinto was promoted to a Williams seat at the Italian Grand Prix and was called up by team boss James Vowles to replace the beleaguered Logan Sargeant after he was sacked.
The 21-year-old has already achieved two top ten results in four races, increasing his points tally to five. That’s more in those four starts than Sargeant managed in his 36 games when he scored a single point.
Red Bull motorsport advisor Helmut Marko is impressed by what he has seen from the Argentine.
“We see it with Colapinto,” he said Motorsport overall“As a relatively inexperienced and not very successful guy in the junior series, although you have to say he was never in the top teams, but what an incredible performance he is showing now.”
“I think he has a long-term contract with Williams. He will definitely be someone in the future. What he showed was very, very good.”
This increased speculation that Colapinto could be the answer to Red Bull’s driver dilemma.
However, nothing is in his hands.
He needs Lawson to impress Red Bull bosses enough to sit down with Perez to discuss his exit, and then he needs Williams and Red Bull to agree a deal that would allow him to do so to leave the Grove team as Red Bull is unlikely to leave. This leaves a back door open for him to return to Williams in a year or three.
Audi also remains an option as they have not yet signed their second driver, although it is said to be a battle between Valtteri Bottas and Mick Schumacher.
But while Colapinto would like to remain on the grid next season, the driver accepts he may have to wait a year or two to secure a full-time racing spot, especially as Williams has committed its drivers until the end of 2026.

When Martin Brundle asked if teams were speaking to him, he replied Heaven Expert: “I’m not really excited about it. Of course, my managers do an excellent job and I really trust them.
“But my job is to drive a car fast enough and turn the steering wheel, and their job is to get me a seat. So you’re doing an excellent job here.
“I don’t really focus on what’s happening. I don’t want to spend too much energy on it. I know that there are no spots available at the moment and I don’t have any more room.
“But look, I’m driving to show that I deserve a place in Formula 1 and that I deserve my place here, that I came to stay and not just to do a few races. So I hope to leave that impression.
“I’m sure I’ll be back in the future, ’26, ’27. I’m sure I’ll come back. That’s why I’ll work hard for it. Of course there are still a few races left this year to show what I can do. So that’s good news.
“But you see, if you had told me two months ago that I would be here, I wouldn’t believe you. I’m just enjoying this opportunity, the chance William has given me is something from another planet. I’ll just do everything I can to give the team what they deserve.”
