Eustace’s strong reaction to Blackburn’s penalty decision

The hosts secured a narrow 1-0 win at Vicarage Road thanks to an Edo Kayembe penalty. Ryan Hedges was found to have touched the ball after it fell off Vakoun Bayo and struck him.

Eustace had no doubt it was the wrong decision and would have cost Rovers a well-deserved point.

“I thought it was a very bad decision by the referee, I’ve seen that many times,” he said.

“It’s really bad. His hands are a little high, but they’re off the guys’ backs and he’s not even looking at the ball.”

“It’s a bad decision that cost us three points. But I am very happy with the away performance and the way we did our business.”

“When the cross comes in, it is deflected in the air. The striker jumps up in front of Hedgey, he pulls him out so he doesn’t foul him, and the cross bounces off the striker’s back and hits his hand.”

“It is a very disappointing decision and one that should not have been made.

“It doesn’t matter (whether the laws are wrong). The decision has been made, but we have to look at the positives because it was an excellent away performance.”

Blackburn Rovers have now suffered three consecutive away defeats and scored just one goal. However, when the score was 0-0, they had two big chances and didn’t take advantage of them.

Dom Hyam will not know how the ball stayed out after hitting the crossbar and post from close range. Andi Weimann also missed a brilliant chance shortly before the penalty spot.

“I thought it was a very, very good performance. With and without the ball we had good phases in which we gained possession of the ball very well and created chances,” said Eustace.

“We had the best two chances of the game with Dominic (Hyam) and Andi (Weimann), which we have to take advantage of. We restricted a very good team with almost nothing.”

“A little bit of pressure, which is fine, but we defended the penalty area very well. We dug deep and played really good football against a team that has a fantastic offensive line.”

“They didn’t cause us any problems and we looked like a big threat on the counterattack. Aynsley had no saves and they didn’t get much out of it. We had two great chances.”

“They are a top six team with a very good young manager in Tom (Cleverley). You also have to respect the opponent, they are a team with a lot of experience in the Premier League.”

“We had two golden chances and had to convert them.”
